Color Theory Exploration
"Color is my day-long obsession, joy, and torment." - Claude Monet
Stretch and ExploreThough I have always had a specific way I like to set up my pallet, working out these little studies with a more focused attention to the basics of color theory in mind really helped me work some things out prior to settling on my focus for the final piece. I explored an analogous color scheme, which got me thinking about greens. . . they can be really tricky sometimes and overwhelm a piece. Then moved onto some studies with limited pallets that played around with complementary colors. Click on the images in the gallery for some more insights into the process.

,Working on this piece has me thinking a lot about Impression Sunrise by Claude Monet and the brilliant use of color and brush work used to capture the feeling of the light dancing on the water. Honestly, water is tough! Though I am happy with the overall feel that the colors and brushwork achieve, I keep seeing areas that could use more POP and I long for the courage to really loosen up!
